FED:`Dangerous complacency` on HIV

An expert body says Australia's young adults are displaying a dangerous complacency
on HIV .. as the globe marks World Aids Day today.

The Australian Society of HIV Medicine says rising rates of sexually-transmitted infections
in young adults show a lot of unsafe sex is occurring .. and perhaps luck is all that's
preventing an Australian spike in new HIV cases.

CEO LEVINIA CROOKS says a dangerous complacency has affected the broader community
.. a quiet sense that if you're not gay .. an injecting drug user or a sex worker .. HIV
is not a risk for you.

But she says if that attitude to unsafe sex continues .. it will only be a matter of
time before HIV infections increase too.
