QLD: weekend toll on Qld roads continues to rise
Queensland's weekend road toll continues to rise .. with the death of a 31-year-old
man in the early hours of this morning.
He was hit by a car at the intersection of Derby and George Streets .. Rockhampton
in central Queensland around 1 o'clock (AEST) this morning.
Police are talking to a 47-year-old man.
Yesterday morning two young men died when their car rolled and crashed while they were
on their way to play in an under-19 rugby union grand final.
The 18 and 19 year olds were members of the Goondoowindi Rugby Union team and were
driving to Toowoomba when the accident happened on the Gore Highway at Captains Creek
near Millmerran at 10.30am (AEST).
Three other team mates were injured.
Queensland Rugby Union chairman PETER LEWIS says the loss will be deeply felt in the
Darling Downs rugby community.
Mr LEWIS says Queensland Rugby will be offering whatever assistance it can to the families
and team-mates of the young men.
