Fed: Solomons more dangerous after August 21 - Downer
Foreign Minister ALEXANDER DOWNER says the job of Australian peacekeepers in the SolomonIslands will become more dangerous when a gun amnesty expires later this month.
Mr DOWNER says the gun amnesty ends on August the 21st.
He says the difficult and dangerous part will be when the intervention force goes afterthe illegal weapons which are still in the community.
An Australian-led police and military force of 1,300 are attempting to restore lawand order in the Solomons, which has been brought to its knees by four years of ethnicfighting between islanders from Malaita and Guadalcanal.
